Alliance Avenue bike path in progress
Work is underway on a shared-use path at a major intersection in the Hunter Region.

The Alliance Avenue and Wyee Road intersection in Morisset will soon feature a shared pathway and pedestrian refuges alongside a new dual-lane roundabout.

The Alliance Avenue intersection, located in one of the region's fastest-growing suburbs, is part of a key freight and diversion route for B-double vehicles and the M1.

It is the only access point to Morisset's light industrial area from Wyee Road.

Currently there are no provisions for riders along the route.

The new path will link the industrial area at Morisset with the town centre. From the town centre, riders can access shared pathways that lead out to Morisset Park or into Cooranbong.

Lake Macquarie Mayor, Adam Shultz, said the upgrade would improve safety, access and congestion for all transport users.

"Morisset has been identified as the most important growth area in the Hunter and Central Coast regions, and projects like this will help it realise its potential," he said.

"Lake Macquarie City Council is spending $10.5 million directly on this intersection upgrade, as it is a key step in delivering our Morisset Development Contribution Catchment Plan, supporting the area's forecast growth of 12,000 new residents over the next 20 years."

The NSW Government will provide a further $2.5 million for the project from its State Voluntary Planning Agreement Funding Program, which funds projects supporting housing and employment growth.

Member of the Legislative Council, Emily Suvaal, added: "Upgrading Alliance Avenue and Wyee Road intersection will create smoother and safer connections throughout Morisset for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles alike.

"This is far more than a better road and pathway – it's an investment in Morisset's future."
