Seaford level crossings project underway
New rail bridges and an elevated station will be constructed at Seaford as two level crossings are removed at Armstrongs Road and Station Street.

The rail trail to Frankston, built recently as part of the series of earlier level crossing removals on the Frankston Line, is located adjacent to the track on the approach to Armstrongs Road.

Depending on the construction system adopted for the proposed rail bridge at this location, the trail will likely have to be realigned as part of the project.

However, at Station Street the trail runs adjacent to the Kananook Creek and most likely will not be impacted by the bridge construction.

The level crossings project has opened public consultation on the project to allow local input into the final designs.

Consultation closes on 30 November 2025.

The Level Crossings Removal Project says the new rail bridges and elevated station will provide more opportunities for community spaces, car parking and walking and cycling connections.

The project is in the early planning stages and site investigations are underway. Further detailed design, engineering assessments and community consultation will inform the design.

Construction will start in 2027. The level crossings will be gone for good, and the new elevated Seaford Station will open in 2029.

By 2029, the Frankston Line will be level crossing free.

The Frankston Line will see major improvements from next February when services return to the City Loop following the opening of the Metro Tunnel.
