Amy Gillett Bikeway Stage 4 complete
A new 5.7-kilometre section of the Amy Gillett Bikeway has opened this month, extending the popular cycling and walking track from Mount Torrens to Birdwood.

Stage 4 of the bikeway adds another link to the scenic rail trail, bringing the total length to 22 kilometres.

The extension includes two new creek bridges and an innovative truss bridge over the heritage Burford Hills Rail Bridge.

The project was funded by the federal and state governments ($2.6 million each) and an Adelaide Hills Council contribution of $500,000.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Emily Bourke, said the bikeway would encourage local community members to be more active.

"The state government is proud to support projects that make cycling more accessible and connect our towns and communities.

"Projects like this not only provide safer spaces for cyclists and families but also help drive local tourism and strengthen regional economics."

The final section of the Amy Gillett Bikeway, Stage 5, will stretch 8.4 kilometres from Birdwood to Mt Pleasant.

It will be located across two council areas: Adelaide Hills Council (4.7-kilometre section from Birdwood to Randell Road) and Barossa Council (3.7-kilometre section from Randell Road to Mt Pleasant).

The councils are currently in discussions over its funding and construction.
