One of the Central Coast's busiest level crossings will be getting a safety upgrade with major works planned at Rawson Road and Railway Street in Woy Woy.
Detailed design has begun to overhaul the level crossing and adjoining intersection, which saw 14 crashes between July 2019 and June 2024.
The proposed upgrade includes:
-
new cycle lanes, resurfacing and line marking
-
a ban on the eastbound right turn into Railway Street
-
separated pedestrian and vehicle paths on the northern side of the rail line
-
a new pedestrian crossing across the southern side of the rail line
-
new traffic lights
-
CCTV monitoring
-
upgraded kerbs, footpath and signage.
Community members will be invited to offer feedback on detailed designs in 2026 and riders should make their voices heard. Bicycle Network will provide updates when possible.
Minister for Roads and Minister for Regional Transport, Jenny Aitchison, said: "This crossing has been the site of far too many crashes, and locals have been telling us loud and clear that it needs attention.
"This upgrade will make every journey through Woy Woy safer – whether you're walking, cycling, catching a train or driving."
