Cycleway car park detours coming
Taswater will be closing McVilly Drive and its car park in March as part of its project to shift the sewer to Selfs Point, affecting all users of the Intercity Cycleway.
From Monday 16 March 2026 at 7:00 am to Tuesday 31 March 2026 at 5:00 pm, riders crossing between the Cycleway and the Tasman Highway path will have to circle around the car park, which will be a work site and shouldn't be crossed.
The McVilly Drive closure also covers the shared paths so riders will have to use the Bridge of Remembrance to cross the highway rather than the underpass.
The work is weather dependent, so there is a chance the closure may last longer. If it does we'll post it to our Facebook site.
Count bike riders and improve your local paths and lanes
The annual count of commuter bike riders in Hobart is on again on Tuesday 3 March and for the first time, Launceston is joining the action.
Volunteers receive 6-months free Bicycle Network membership or a $70 donation to a charity or club of their choice just for turning up between 7 am and 9 am.
There are still spots available for counting so jump on to the webpage and enter your details: https://counts.bicyclenetwork.com.au/traffic-survey/254
Tasman Bridge 4-hour path closure
The Tasmanian Bridge southern path will be closed on Tuesday 3 March 2026 between 6.30 pm and 10.30 pm to allow work on the new path connecting the bridge to the Foreshore Trail

West Tamar trail closure
The West Tamar Trail will be closed at Tailrace Park between Monday 2 and Friday 6 March to complete the widening and resurfacing of 1.2 km of the trail.
Approximately 400 m of the trail on the approach to Valley Street will be realigned to reduce impacts caused by high tides and the walking–cycling bridge will be resurfaced.
Both branches of the West Tamar Trail will be closed and there will be no pedestrian access link on either branch of the trail to or from Tailrace Park.
