Delivery rider films aim to teach safety

A batch of safety and educational films has recently been uploaded to the internet to help gig riders better understand the rules and behaviours that keep all riders out of trouble.

There are now large numbers of gig riders, often foreign students, plying the streets of Australian cities.

They are out there day and night, in all weather, supplementing their meagre income and keeping restaurants and their customers happy.

But being new to Australia, they are often ignorant of, or confused by, our road rules and behavioural expectations.

This has put them, and other riders and pedestrians, at risk of crash and injury.

In Victoria the road safety authorities have been working with stakeholders, including Bicycle Network, to resolve such problems, and keep our streets attractive and safe for all users.

One of the initiatives is a series of short films, based on research with the riders themselves, aimed at bringing riders up to speed on road rules and safe riding.

The films are now on YouTube and the more people who know about them, the better.

There are ten educational films and four short safety advice films.

The educational films have been uploaded as both a playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlistlist=PLs5qn0CxqDldzZSHqmInOGzFKKsbByL_B
