Regional NSW gets road safety boost
The state and federal governments will jointly fund 33 projects to make roads safer for riders, pedestrians and drivers across regional New South Wales.

The $19.7 million investment will be delivered through the Road Safety Program and span 20 local government areas.

The works focus on notorious intersections, crossings and key thoroughfares and are aimed at reducing the frequency and severity of serious and fatal crashes.

Key cycling improvements include:

  • installation of a shared path on Cleaton Street, Hood Street and Field Street at Wilcannia.
  • installation of a shared path, footpath, bus bay, sealed shoulder and parking adjacent to Binalong Public School on Dickinson Street at Binalong
  • installation of a shared path on Bushrangers Creek Road and Showground Road at Mt Arthur
  • installation of a shared path on Margaret Crescent between Hawthorn Street and Macquarie Street at Dubbo
  • installation of a shared path on Lakeside Crescent and Boomerang Drive at Boomerang Beach
  • installation of a shared path, footpath and pedestrian bridge on Larmer Street between Townsend and Adams streets at Narrandera
  • installation of a shared path on Calala Lane between Darrell Road and Boronia Drive at Calala
  • installation of a shared path on Cadell Street between Short Street and Junction Park at Wentworth.

NSW Minister for Roads and Regional Transport, Jenny Aitchison, said: "This funding will help councils deliver critical infrastructure upgrades in towns and regional centres where they will have the greatest impact.

"It's part of our ongoing commitment to significantly reduce road deaths and serious injuries, particularly in regional communities across NSW."
