New bridge nears completion
Level crossing works are in full swing at Newport as contractors prepare to lift the final span of the new bike and pedestrian bridge over the rail corridor at Champion Road.

The span is already constructed and sits by the rail line awaiting a complicated crane lift while the rail line is shut down.

The 24/7 works are part of two level crossing removals in the precinct that will cause significant disruption to road and train travel in the coming weeks.

A new bike path extension will also be constructed along the Market Street Reserve.

There will also be closures of local roads during the course of the month.

From Friday 10 April, vehicle and pedestrian access across the rail line at Champion Road will be closed for the bridge lift.

The road level crossing will be permanently closed for the construction of a cul de sac.

Maddox Road will be closed for rail bridge construction works.

A shuttle bus will be available for pedestrians however bike riders will need to take longer detours on Mason Street, Melbourne Rod, Millers Road and Kororoit Creek Road.

Riders can cross the rail line using the underpass at Newport Station.

There will be a westbound road closure on Railway Parade.
