Making a Hobart shortcut wider
The City of Hobart is widening the path on a popular shortcut route through Battery Point.
Many riders bypass busy Sandy Bay Road by taking the No Through road next to the CSIRO and on to AJ White Park and up through the back streets of Battery Point. The City will widen the joining path to make the shortcut a little more comfortable for all users.
The path will be closed while the works occur over the coming month, but you can take the foreshore footpath to go around the closure.

Hotel plans narrow Foreshore Trail
The Tasmanian Planning Commission is calling for comments on plans for the contested hotel development at Kangaroo Bay, which show a constrained Foreshore Trail.
The Architectural and Landscape plans show the Foreshore Trail would be hemmed in by seating blocks on one side and outdoor dining on the other, with no extra width to ensure people could easily pass each other.
According to Austroads guidelines, structures like seating and fencing should be set back 1 metre off the path and at the busiest points the path should ideally be wider or separate people riding from people walking.
