Note: Construction works are causing intermittent closures of the Footscray Road bike route in the coming weeks. For updates, click here.

Update 15 June: The closures outlined in this article have been cancelled due to inclement weather. This article will be updated with further information as it comes to hand.

The Footscray Road trail will be closed for 24 hours over the weekend due to major crane lifts above the trail at Appleton Dock Road.

The trail will close at 3pm Saturday 17 June and reopen at 3pm the next day, Sunday 18 June 2023.

Riders and pedestrians will be detoured along the Moonee Ponds Creek and Dynon Road trails.

There will also be a short-term closure of the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail on Monday 19 June, from 8am to 2pm.

Similar closures will occur intermittently until August.

The next two scheduled closures are:

  • 3pm Saturday 24 June to 3pm Sunday 25 June 2023
  • 3pm Saturday 8 July to 3pm Sunday 9 July 2023

The West Gate Tunnel Project is starting construction on the ramps connecting CityLink to the new elevated road by lifting massive steel beams above the road and the railway line.

The work will be undertaken at night after the road and the rail tracks have been closed for safety.

Additional, extended closures through the night until 8 am may be required on some days, and prior notice will be given closer to the date.
