Riders in the north-west of Sydney have the chance to shape the future of active transport infrastructure in Epping.
The City of Parramatta has published the Draft Epping Town Centre Master Plan, which includes "make cycling in Epping accessible, safe and direct" as one of its core urban design principles.
In particular, the plan proposes introducing a 2.4-metre bi-directional separated cycleway along the main thoroughfare of Rawson Street and a reduction of the two lanes of motor traffic to a northbound one-way speed-reduced lane between Hunts Lane and Carlingford Street.
Pavements would be widened to encourage pedestrian movement and there would be on-street parking spaces on both sides of the road.
This cycleway would connect with broader regional routes proposed in the Parramatta Bike Plan 2024 – such as the shared path proposed along Bridge Street and Carlingford Road.
Aside from the Rawson Street upgrade, the plan proposes upgrading Epping Civic Place, the network of Epping laneways and Beecroft Road to enhance walkability, connectivity and liveability.
Key features include not only safer pedestrian and cycling links, but also a new town square, upgraded public spaces and new community facilities.
The council is seeking community feedback on the draft plan before 5pm on Monday 18 August 2025.
